SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a shooting death in Texas have a suspect in custody in Kansas.
Just after 5:30p.m. Thursday, authorities booked 55-year-old Vernon Dixon into the Sedgwick County jail, according to online jail records. He is listed as a fugitive from justice.
On March 31, a man was at an apartment complex in San Antonio, Texas with his girlfriend, the suspect identified as Dixon and the suspect’s family, according to Crime Stoppers.
There was an argument between the victim’s girlfriend and two of Dixon's daughters. The argument led to the two suspect’s daughters assaulting the victim’s girlfriend. The victim and the Dixon intervened to separate the women.
Dixon was going to give the victim and his girlfriend a ride home when he shot the the man.
Dixon fled the location with a family member. The victim ran after being shot and collapsed nearby. EMS transported him to a local hospital, where he died.
Authorities have not released the circumstances of Dixon's arrest.
