HUTCHINSON —The Cottonwood Building at the Kansas State Fair was evacuated due to a gas leak on Saturday, according to a media release from the Kansas Fire Marshal's office.

Staff from the Fire Marshal's office responded to a report of a smell of gas in the building and detected a dangerous buildup of gas in the building, which contains a food court.
The Hutchinson Fire Department was at the scene and pushed fresh air into the building to dissipate the gas. They were working to determine the source of the gas and that it was safe to reopen the building.
"Great teamwork by all of our public safety partners working to keep our state fairgrounds safe! "
