RENO COUNTY —Authorities are investigating a fatal fire at a home in Hutchinson.
Just after 3:30a.m. Monday, crews responded small house fire at 56th Street and Old Kansas 61, according to a media release.. When crews arrived on scene, they found a small 700 square foot home that that was fully involved with roof collapse. Crews performed a defensive attack calling the fire controlled at 4:15 am.
During firefighting operations, it was determined that there was potential of an occupant still in the home. After the fire was out and the removal of roof materials and debris, the occupant was found deceased.
Investigation of the fire showed that the fire may have started at approximately 1a.m. A neighbors camera system showed a glow in the area at that time. The fire went unnoticed for approx. 2 and one half hours before Hutchinson Fire was notified. Due to the prolonged burn time and the destruction of the home and contents, the cause of the fire is ruled as undetermined.
