DOUGLAS COUNTY– A motorcyclist died in an accident that occurred just after 4p.m. Friday in Lawrence.
According to Lawrence Police spokesperson Laura McCabe, a car was westbound on 21 Street. The motorcycle was northbound on Naismith Drive. The two collided.
Officers immediately blocked traffic heading north on Naismith while paramedics worked to assess the driver of the motorcycle. Medics from Lawrence Douglas County Fire Medical pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene.
A helicopter, which was set to respond, was cancelled once it was obvious the motorcycle driver did not survive. He was wearing a helmet. The driver of the car had minor physical injuries and cooperated fully with the investigation.
Responding officers interviewed several witnesses who saw the crash happen. LKPD’s Accident Investigations Unit responded and is working to determine the exact cause of the crash. Police have not released the name of the man who died.
