Police ID man killed running into street from KC store parking area

KANSAS CITY —Police have identified the man who died in a pedestrian accident just before 4p.m. Tuesday in Kansas City as 67-year-old Stewart Edward Jr., according to KCPD Sergeant Jake Becchina.

A gold Ford F150 was eastbound on 31st Street  Just east of Mersington Street, Edward ran into the roadway from the grassy area located next to the parking lot of the Family Dollar Store.

The pickup struck him and he was thrown to the pavement. The driver of the pickup stopped immediately, remained at the scene, cooperated fully with the investigation, and was not impaired.

KCFD EMS transported Edward to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was subsequently pronounced deceased by hospital staff shortly after arrival. This is fatality #52 compared to #73 at this time last year, according to Becchina.
