Richard Werner, 92, died August 9, 2024, at Via Christi in Hays, Kansas. He was born May 25, 1932, in Plainville, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Nettie (Larson) Werner.

Richard was united in marriage to Rosella (Garvert) Werner on December 29, 1952, and to the union seven children were born: Doug, Dave, Rick, Kenneth, Debbie, Jeff and Rusty. She preceded his death on January 31, 1997. He later married Judy Meitler, on February 14, 1998, in Colorado.

Richard attended St. Joseph Miliary Academy and Plainville High School and later joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Wichita Falls, TX. He retired from Farmland as an oil purchaser. He had a love of planes and was a pilot; and during his time in the Air Force, he worked on planes and served as an instructor.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Plainville Kansas.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; six sons: Doug Werner and wife Mary of Fort Scott, Kansas, Dave Werner of Hays, Kansas, Rick Werner and wife Karen of Plainville, Kansas, Kenneth Werner and wife Amelia of Hays, Kansas, Jeff Werner and wife Sami of Codell, Kansas, and Rusty Werner and wife Marianne of Codell, Kansas; one daughter Debra Bruhl and husband Dallas of Salina, Kansas; brother, Vernon Werner of Flagler, CO; sister, Mary Lee (Eddie) Schmidtberger of Pratt, KS; sisters-in-laws, Irene Fellhoelter, Loretta Hinca, Lavonne Werner, Jacki Werner all of Plainville; Judy’s children, Teresa, Gaylene, Kaylene, Rod and Terry; 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter.

He joins in his heavenly home his parents; first wife Rosella Werner; siblings, Joseph Werner, Leonard (Lucille) Werner, Donald (Ann) Werner, and Ronald Werner; sister-in-law, Nancy Werner, Kathryn Creevan; and brother-in-law, Robert Garvert.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainville. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Plainville. Visitation will be held on Thursday at 6:00 PM with a Vigil and Rosary Service at 7:00 PM at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Plainville.

Richard Werner

Anthony Jules Ny died peacefully on August 8, 2024 at the age of 89.

 Tony is survived by his fiancée Shirley Robinson, children Anna Sneath, Charles Slater, and Maria Ny; grandchildren Kayla Hillers, Katie Graham, and Anthony Ny-Graham; and great grandchildren Braylon Albertson, Eliyah Spence, and Victor Hillers. 

He is preceded in death by his wife Louisa Ny, mother Cecilia Schmedding, father Frank Ny, sister Lynne Gimlin, and stepfather Herman Schmedding.

Tony was born on July 24, 1935 in Daly City, California to Frank and Cecilia Ny. He married his wife Louisa who he met in San Diego. Together they raised their blended family and worked together to build a successful fence company. In 2005, they moved to Kansas to be closer to their grandchildren and enjoy their retirement. 

In 2015, after his wife's passing, Tony went into the bar business with his daughter Anna andson-in-law Steve and purchased the Midway Bar and Grill. He was an active member of the community and in 2016 when he met Shirley, the two quickly became inseparable. 

As Tony's health began to decline Shirley stood by his side and helped as often as she was able.Tony was passionate about playing pool and enjoyed competing in tournaments. So much so that he sold his living room couch to make room for a full sized pool table. 

He also loved his Harleys and rode them for as long as his body would allow him to. Tony was a brilliant man, and a conversation with him was always enlightening and educational. Although he had to quit school in the eighth grade to help support his family, he was an avid learner and knew a little bit about nearly everything.

The family will have visitation on Friday August 23, 2024 at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene, KS from 12pm-2pm followed by a service at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association may be made in Tony's name. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Smoky Hill Health and Rehabilitation, Interim Home Health, and all of his caregivers that made his days a little easier and brighter, especially his fiancée Shirley Robinson and granddaughter Katie Graham.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Randall A. Carrier, 72, of Salina, KS passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024. He was born in Salina, to Ray Allen and Royce Gaye (Linsenmayer) Carrier, on March 1, 1952. He married Margaret A. McMahon, on January 15, 1972. &nbsp;

Randy had a confident and forthright personality. His directness and openness in expressing his thoughts made him reliable, a committed business owner, a kind-hearted individual, and a caring husband, father, and friend. In many aspects of his life, Randy exemplified what it meant to live with authenticity and purpose. His legacy was not just in the success of his business but in the lives he touched and the positive impact he made on those around him, especially as a North Salina Businessman.

Randy loved spending time outdoors at their residence north of Salina, as well as going to the lake with friends. He was always ready to grab a slalom ski and take a run, regardless of the temperature.

He is survived by his wife, Margie, at home, sons Jason Carrier and his wife Clara Lucia in Naperville, IL, and Nathan Carrier and his wife Lindsey in Overland Park, KS. He is also survived by grandsons Nicolas Carrier, Benton Carrier, Beckett Carrier, and Ethan Carrier, step-sister Rita Macy and her husband Bob in Abilene and step-mother Shirley Carrier.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Shawn Bartow.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, August 15 at Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth Street, Salina, Kansas.

The memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Kevin Weber as celebrant. Burial will take place at a later date.

Randall A. Carrier

Charles William Weathers, Jr., of Salina, KS, passed away Friday, August 9, 2024. He was born January 20, 1931, at Asbury Hospital to Charles Sr. and Gladys (Neilson) Weathers.&nbsp;

Mr. Weathers was a long-time Salina resident. He was retired from his work as an independent Consulting Engineer. He formerly owned and operated E.F.D. Package Express, Hutchpack Delivery, Kwik Express, Film Delivery Service, and Weathers Popcorn Companies. He also worked as an engineer for the Quaker Oats Company at various locations and Wilson &amp; Company, Engineers &amp; Architects in Salina. He served as a Lieutenant in the US Air Force during the latter part of the Korean War, serving in the United Kingdom.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Jane; son, Charles Martin (Mitsuko) and granddaughter, Erika Weathers of Tokyo, Japan; daughter, Sydney Earle (Mike) of Indianapolis, IN; grandson, Casey Earle (Corinne) and their children Aubrey and Charlie of Fishers, IN; and granddaughter, Mallory Earle, of Indianapolis, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Ruth Ann and Molly Jean Weathers.&nbsp;

Charley traveled extensively, having visited all 50 of the United States and 50 countries spanning all seven continents.&nbsp;

He was an avid KSU fan who never missed a chance to take in a game with Jane and could rattle off trivia with the best of EMAW nation. An NFL and die-hard Chiefs fan, Charley took home a few prizes from the Presbyterian Manor’s weekly pick ‘em contests.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

A movie buff, Charley had a “starring” role (~3 seconds) in the movie “Up the Academy” that was filmed in Salina.&nbsp;

He had a true, childlike love for Christmas and would often send his wish list by the end of October. He loved nothing more than sharing a meal or a cup of coffee with his closest friends and family to talk. An accomplished photographer, Charley left a wealth of memories from gatherings, holidays and family milestones. He will be missed tremendously by everyone who knew him.

Mr. Weathers was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Salina, having served as an Elder and Deacon. He had been an active member of the Salina Rotary Club; having served as president and served on many district and local communities, mainly involving scholarships and humanitarian aid to Central America. He was also a Paul Harris fellow. He was the Team Leader on a six-week Rotary Cultural Exchange visit to Brazil and a volunteer for the Cadre of Technical Advisors for the Rotary Foundation. He had also been a board member of the Salina Chapter of Habitat For Humanity and served as an American Red Cross volunteer.&nbsp;

Charley has been a member of: KSU Alumni Association, Salina Country Club; having served on the Board of directors, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon social fraternity. He was formerly a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators, a Licensed Professional Engineer, a Licensed Private Detective, and a past member of the Salina Planning Commission and the Salina Downtown Design and Review Board.&nbsp;

Teresa Kaye Nelson&nbsp;was born Sunday January 26th, 1969 in Leavenworth Kansas. She died August 12th, 2024 after a Valorous fight with Cancer. Teresa was married to John Nelson August 26th, 1988. She was the mother of two boys David and Jacob, and loving mother in law to Jessica Janzen and Jessica Nelson. The title she was most proud to attain was Grandma to baby Maria, born on February 22nd 2024. She had a strong bond with her two sisters Michelle and Tracy, and she loved her annual sister weekend.

Teresa's career started where John and her first met at Dillons Grocery Store in 1987 Shawnee Kansas. The culmination of her work experience progressed to her current position as a Cardiac Sonographer at Salina Regional Health Center. Teresa was a true Beauty, Beautiful Soul, and Beautiful attitude about life. Her superhuman power was "Serving, Loving, Lifting, Forgiving" others to the betterment of us all.

Teresa was preceded in Death by her Grandparents Mike and Virginia Gabrick, Mother Carylon Lee (Gabrick). She is survived by her husband John Nelson, Son's David and Jacob Nelson, Daughter in laws Jessica Janzen and Jessica Nelson, Granddaughter Maria Luisa Nelson, and Sisters Michelle Schaar and Tracy Magaha.

Teresa Nelson

Kurtes Axel Blomquist January 12, 1931 ~ May 24, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we inform our community that Kurtes Axel Blomquist (93 yrs) died in Salina, KS on 5/24/2024. He was born in Lindsborg, KS on 1/12/1931 to Swedish immigrant parents Axel and Greta Blomquist. On 7/29/1951 he married Eleanor Leander with whom he raised 3 children and is survived by them: Janet Blomquist, Shawnee Ks; Sandra Breipohl (Gary), Tulsa OK; and Brian Blomquist (Mary), Gypsum CO. Kurtes is also survived by 4 grandsons: Adam Breipohl, Anders Blomquist, Finn Blomquist and Bergen Blomquist.

Kurtes lived and farmed in the Bridgeport/Assaria/Lindsborg community all of his life. He was known for being a hard worker even through all the ups and downs of being a farmer. Described by those who knew him as a kind and generous man, he gave uncountable hours of his time and expertise to his church. He served on the Assaria Lutheran Church Council and on various church committees over the many years he attended ALC. Kurtes was strong in his Christian faith and lived by example that guiding faith over his lifetime. Additionally, Kurtes and Eleanor owned and operated the PFAFF Sewing Center in Salina for 15 years. Kurtes was known for his ability to fix sewing machines, making them “good as new” for those who sought him out. In addition to local customers, there also were many customers who sometimes drove a significant distance to tap into his abilities. Just as in all the other areas of his life, he was known to be a fair and accountable man.

Kurtes was actively involved with the Lions Club and 4-H over the years. No matter how busy he was with other commitments he always found time to participate in and and give of his time to community activities.

To Janet, Sandy and Brian, who were blessed to call Kurtes “Dad”, there are no adequate words that can describe the special man who raised them by example. He loved his family with a huge and uncompromising strength and fortitude. He will be missed. He will be forever remembered as a fine and good man, a man worthy of being called a farmer and the man who was loved by his wife, children and grandsons.

He was born in Lindsborg, KS on 1/12/1931 to Swedish immigrant parents Axel and Greta Blomquist. On 7/29/1951 he married Eleanor Leander with whom he raised 3 children and is survived by them: Janet Blomquist, Shawnee Ks; Sandra Breipohl (Gary), Tulsa OK; and Brian Blomquist (Mary), Gypsum CO. Kurtes is also survived by 4 grandsons: Adam Breipohl, Anders Blomquist, Finn Blomquist and Bergen Blomquist.Kurtes lived and farmed in the Bridgeport/Assaria/Lindsborg community all of his life. He was known for being a hard worker even through all the ups and downs of being a farmer. Described by those who knew him as a kind and generous man, he gave uncountable hours of his time and expertise to his church. He served on the Assaria Lutheran Church Council and on various church committees over the many years he attended ALC. Kurtes was strong in his Christian faith and lived by example that guiding faith over his lifetime. Additionally, Kurtes and Eleanor owned and operated the PFAFF Sewing Center in Salina for 15 years. Kurtes was known for his ability to fix sewing machines, making them “good as new” for those who sought him out. In addition to local customers, there also were many customers who sometimes drove a significant distance to tap into his abilities. Just as in all the other areas of his life, he was known to be a fair and accountable man.Kurtes was actively involved with the Lions Club and 4-H over the years. No matter how busy he was with other commitments he always found time to participate in and and give of his time to community activities.To Janet, Sandy and Brian, who were blessed to call Kurtes “Dad”, there are no adequate words that can describe the special man who raised them by example. Ivan Weaver Lobban, 96, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Sunday, August 11th, at Reflections Retirement Resort, in Salina.

Ivan was born in Clovis, New Mexico on August 24, 1927, a son of Anna Mabelle (Simpson) and Zora Verne Lobban.

He attended McPherson College for 2 years, graduated from Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia and served in the United States Army.

Ivan was a Postal Clerk for 25 years, worked at Vulcan Metals for 3 years and SG Diesel for 8 years. He was a hospice volunteer for 17 years, volunteered for Habitat for Humanity for over 13 years, and was an avid blood donor, giving over 33 gallons.

On April 9, 1954, Ivan married Adelphia "Delphie" Borgstrom in Windom, Kansas.

Survivors include his sons, Laine Lobban (Leslie) of Monument, Colorado, Lance Lobban of Norman, Oklahoma; and daughters, Ann Newcomer (Dave) of Salina, Kansas, Lindi Fahrenthold (Scott) of Solomon, Kansas, and Leesa Krehbiel (David) of Ooltewah, Tennessee.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ben Lobban, Carolyn Sepulveda (Tyler), Kirk Lobban, Sarah Brower (Drew), Hannah Lobban, Mia Lobban (Ronnie), Nara Newcomer, Jenna Seidel (James), Russ Newcomer (Diane), Rachel Eufinger (Myles), Hannah Petkof (Peter), Jessica Fahrenthold, Katrina Fahrenthold, Andy Krehbiel (Megan), Amanda Nadri (Souheil); and great grandchildren, Preston, Tatum, Solana, Enoch, John, Wyatt, and 3 on the way.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leslie Lobban, Leonard Lobban, Elton Lobban; and sister, Ila Verne Stull.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 16th, from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm with family receiving friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio St., Salina.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 17th at Andover Lutheran Church, 117 Dakota Rd, Windom, Kansas, with Pastor Anna Borders officiating. Burial will follow at Andover Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Glenn J. Shomaker, 65, of Salina passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024.&nbsp; He was born in Flagler, CO to Howard and Phyllis (Lund) Shomaker.

In his free time Glenn enjoyed working on cars and loved riding his Harley and being with friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was preceded in death his parents and brother, Harold Shomaker.&nbsp; He is survived by his daughter, Angel Losquadro (Stephen) of Maryland; brothers, Tommy Shomaker of Salina and Eugene Shomaker (Holly) of Kansas City.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 </figure>Randall A. Carrier, 72, of Salina, KS passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024. He was born in Salina, to Ray Allen and Royce Gaye (Linsenmayer) Carrier, on March 1, 1952. He married Margaret A. McMahon, on January 15, 1972. &nbsp;Randy had a confident and forthright personality. His directness and openness in expressing his thoughts made him reliable, a committed business owner, a kind-hearted individual, and a caring husband, father, and friend. In many aspects of his life, Randy exemplified what it meant to live with authenticity and purpose. His legacy was not just in the success of his business but in the lives he touched and the positive impact he made on those around him, especially as a North Salina Businessman.Randy loved spending time outdoors at their residence north of Salina, as well as going to the lake with friends. He was always ready to grab a slalom ski and take a run, regardless of the temperature.He is survived by his wife, Margie, at home, sons Jason Carrier and his wife Clara Lucia in Naperville, IL, and Nathan Carrier and his wife Lindsey in Overland Park, KS. He is also survived by grandsons Nicolas Carrier, Benton Carrier, Beckett Carrier, and Ethan Carrier, step-sister Rita Macy and her husband Bob in Abilene and step-mother Shirley Carrier.He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Shawn Bartow.Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, August 15 at Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth Street, Salina, Kansas.The memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Judith Ann Hettenbach was born on November 21, 1941, in Shady Bend in Lincoln County, Kansas at her grandparents' home. She died on August 7, 2024 at Village Manor Nursing Home in Abilene, Kansas. She was the middle child of Vera (Briscoe) and Richard Reitz, Sr. Judy attended Abilene Public Schools and graduated in 1959 from Abilene High School. During that time, she was a drum majorette her junior and senior year and played the piano and marimba; and was a member of Y-Teens and Pep Club.

She met the love of her life and married Verle L. Hettenbach on March 13, 1960, at the Abilene First United Methodist Church. To this union, three children were born. She was a member of the Dickinson County Rural Life and Woodbine United Methodist Church which she was financial secretary for many years. Judy's main interest was sewing which was a life-long pursuit including making outfits for Miss Rodeo Kansas, duplicating Eisenhower's WWII jacket for the bronze statue casting, and teaching machine embroidery classes. While growing up, she was a member of the Abilene Aggies 4-H Club and continued her involvement in 4-H by supporting her children's and grandchildren's projects. She was a supportive farm wife and was Farm Bureau Membership District Woman of the Year. Judy and Verle received Farm Family of the Year and Century Farm Awards from the Farm Bureau.

Her biggest pride and joy was her family. She is survived by her son Tod (Leesa) of Chapman, her son-in-law Scott Flippo of Abilene, and her son Bart (Susan) of Hope. Grandchildren and great grandchildren include Tessa (Brad) Matacale, Grace, Emmett, and Eleanor of Wichita; Tanner Hettenbach and Parker of Woodbine; Byron Flippo and fiancé Tara Dethlefs of Abilene; Shelby (Devin) Neal and Trenton of Enterprise; and Della Hettenbach and fiancé Samuel Phelps of Harrison, Ohio. Sibling Dale (Dorinda) Reitz of Alva, Florida and sister-in-law Barbara Reitz of Abilene plus many nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her husband Verle, her parents, her loving daughter Lorie Ann Flippo, and brother Richard (Larry) Reitz, Jr.

Judith Ann Hettenbach

Allen Ray Kopf, 81, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Aug 10th, 2024 with his wife Susan by his side. Born in Missouri to Laverne L. Kopf and Marita “Rita” E. Kopf, Allen spent most of his adolescent and adult life in Saline County, Kansas.

As a young child, Allen was a natural country boy. He spent a lot of time with his grandfathers where he developed a love for the outdoors, a passion for fishing and a very colorful vocabulary. A vocabulary so colorful in fact, that he and his siblings regularly bathed with bars of soap that had teeth marks in them. This colorful vocabulary made him a natural fit in the firehouse where he had a long career as a firefighter, retiring a lieutenant for the Salina Fire Department in 1997.

He spent his days off from the firehouse working for Tink’s Auto Repair, hunting and fishing with his buddies and helping his friends and family with whatever they needed fixed. Allen was an extremely hard worker from a very young age and even after retirement from the fire department found a second career working for Saline County where he also retired.

Allen cared deeply for his friends, but nothing meant more to him than his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. You could not speak to him on the phone without telling him everyone you had talked to and how they were doing. As a husband and father, he did everything he could to make sure his family was taken care of. As a grandfather, he provided so many priceless and unforgettable memories that will be cherished for decades and generations.

He is survived by his wife Susan; children Jeff, Mike and Michelle (Fuester); stepchildren, Carole Drake, Michelle Long and Chris Cox; Siblings Dale Kopf and Brenda O’Gorman; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be&nbsp;10am Wednesday&nbsp;at St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, Salina, KS. Burial will follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery.

Allen Ray Kopf

Max L. Marler, Salina, formerly of Minneapolis, Kansas, passed from this life on August 8, 2024, at a Salina care center after a brief illness.&nbsp;

Max was born on January 30, 1937, in Beloit, KS to Clem T. and Dorothy (McClintock) Marler. He attended school in Delphos and graduated with the class of 1955. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Allison on July 20, 1956. Max worked for Kansas Power and Light and Westar Co. for 40 years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electronics for 55 years. For 20 years of his career with KP&amp;L he was the Outside District man for Gypsum, Kipp, Assaria, and Roxbury, KS. Max also served as President of the Salina Labor Building Assoc., President of the Central Labor Unions and Union Steward for the IBEW Local 304. Max was a member of the 425th Transportation Company, US Army Reserves in Salina, served as a past president and secretary of the Gypsum Lions Club as well as served several terms as Elder and Sunday school teacher at the Kipp Presbyterian Church.

Max’s passions were music, hunting and fishing. He played the saxophone professionally in The Kings Men Dance Band and the Carl and Max Duo. During his musical career, he served several terms on the board of Local 207, International Musicians Assoc. He was a member of the Striped Bass Club, a registered Trap shooter and enjoyed being a competitive Blue Rock shooter. Max spent many years raising English Setters and loved to work the dogs hunting pheasant and quail.

Max was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Michael Cedillo.

Marler, Salina, formerly of Minneapolis, Kansas, passed from this life on August 8, 2024, at a Salina care center after a brief illness.&nbsp;Max was born on January 30, 1937, in Beloit, KS to Clem T. and Dorothy (McClintock) Marler. He attended school in Delphos and graduated with the class of 1955. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Allison on July 20, 1956. Max worked for Kansas Power and Light and Westar Co. for 40 years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electronics for 55 years. For 20 years of his career with KP&amp;L he was the Outside District man for Gypsum, Kipp, Assaria, and Roxbury, KS. Max also served as President of the Salina Labor Building Assoc., President of the Central Labor Unions and Union Steward for the IBEW Local 304. Max was a member of the 425th Transportation Company, US Army Reserves in Salina, served as a past president and secretary of the Gypsum Lions Club as well as served several terms as Elder and Sunday school teacher at the Kipp Presbyterian Church.Max’s passions were music, hunting and fishing. He played the saxophone professionally in The Kings Men Dance Band and the Carl and Max Duo. During his musical career, he served several terms on the board of Local 207, International Musicians Assoc. He was a member of the Striped Bass Club, a registered Trap shooter and enjoyed being a competitive Blue Rock shooter. Larry Edmund Homeier, known fondly as "Skip,” passed away on August 8, 2024, in Salina, Kansas. Born on November 1, 1943, in Ellsworth, Kansas, Skip was known for his dry sense of humor and deep love for his family.

Skip was an avid fisherman and hunter, passions he eagerly shared with his family. As a long-time member and Treasurer of the Salina Kennel Club, Skip was the go-to expert for training hunting dogs, a role he and his wife, Pam, embraced as obedience trainers.

For 30 years, Skip worked at National Bank of America as a Computer Programmer and Vice President. After his retirement from the bank, he served as the Custodian for Trinity United Methodist Church for several years. His meticulous nature made him the family’s trusted fixer, whether building a shelf or repairing a sink.

Skip graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1961 and earned a degree in History from Kansas Wesleyan University in 1966, where he also met Pam. Their bond grew during their college years, leading to a life filled with love and shared passions.

Skip also loved movies and reading, finding joy in stories on screen and in books. His life was defined by his steady presence, reliability, and deep care for those around him.

He is survived by his wife, Pam Homeier of Salina; his sister, LaVonne Shawley (Claude) of Linwood; and his three daughters, Stacy Came (Chad), Jill Phelps (Scott), and Nicki Seay (Dewayne), all of Salina. He also leaves behind six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 16th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th St, Salina, KS 67401. Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 17th at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 901 E Neal Ave, Salina, KS 67401.

LeAnn Marie Berry, 84, of Salina, Kan., passed away Friday, August 9, 2024. She was born on October 11, 1939, in Clay County, Kan., to Wilbur and Hazel (Welch) Griffiths.

LeAnn grew up in Clay Center, Kan., and graduated from Clay Center High School. She worked for many years at Tony’s Pizza and as a door greeter at Walmart in Salina. She liked to visit with family and loved her dogs and Chico the family cat and watching game shows. She also enjoyed the traveling she was able to do while her husband served in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include her sons, David (Susie), Doug (Kim), and Jeff (Jane) Berry; sisters, Violet Kolle and Barbara Savery; grandchildren, Steven (Melanie), Thomas, Jack, and Joshua Berry, Veronica Brown (William), and Luke Guzman; great-grandchildren, Ava, Valen, and Harlan; nephew, Paul Kolle; and niece, Lisa Donald.

She is preceded in death by her parents; the father of her sons, Thomas Berry; and her brothers-in-law, Ronald Kolle and Roger Savery.

A memorial service for LeAnn will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th St, Salina.

Our loving father, Keith E. Adams, 88, fell into the arms of Jesus on August 3, 2024. He was born November 19, 1935.&nbsp; His parents were Lawrence and Lorene Adams. He was born and bred in Miltonvale, Ks. After high school, he joined the USAF. Following his honorable discharge, he became a Meteorologist Technician. Many of you heard his voice every day giving the weather report on KNCK.

Survivors are his wife of 40 years, Judy Hodson Adams of Wichita, KS.&nbsp; Special mention to his faithful dog, Zoey, who just doesn't understand why "Daddy" is not around. Larry Wade Peppers, 80, entered into eternal peace on August 5, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, KS.

Larry was born on August 19, 1943 in Granite City, IL to parents Thomas Wade and Elta Oletta (Sykes) Peppers. Larry graduated from Granite City High School and earned an associates degree from Hutchinson Community College.

He married Judy Nelson on June 9,1963. They had 4 children together before she passed away on August 6,1993.

Larry served in the Air Force as an A1C Missile Facilities Technician in the mid -1960s.

He later began working at Sears, and stayed for 43 years as a sales associate and manager, then moved to Menards before his retirement.

Larry enjoyed coaching his sons Babe Ruth baseball teams, watching KU basketball, fishing, casinos, and loved listening to classic country music.

He married Laura Baumberger in September of 1994. Larry and Laura raised several puppies, including his beloved Mandy. They liked to play bingo and dine at local area restaurants.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife (Judy); two sisters (Linda and Mary).

Lyla "Pat" Patricia Brooks, 74, passed away on August 03, 2024 at her home in Solomon, KS.

Lyla was born on August 23, 1949 in Scott City, KS to parents Leonard Henry and Leta Mae (Eastham) Brooks.

She loved her job at the library and loved working with the community and especially the children. She participated in many volunteer events encouraging people to read. She loved volunteering and often volunteered at events for the Smokey Hill Museum; one example would be the Salina Street Fair. She was also a volunteer for the North Salina Community Development project and Lakewood Discovery Center events.

Pat didn’t have the opportunity to go to college until later in life but she loved it and would have made a lifetime career out of it if she could. She attended Kansas State University and received two Masters degrees, one in Environmental Studies and another in Women's Studies. She was passionate about environmental issues, social injustice and human rights. She was very knowledgeable and wrote many essays on these issues. She was an avid reader and spent a large part of most days reading and learning new things.

She was very committed in the Baha'i faith community. She loved her cat Nellie and spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved gardening.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents; Sisters: Luella Betzold and Linda Brooks; Brothers: Leonard Brooks, Leland Brooks and Larry Brooks.

Lyla "Pat" Patricia Brooks

Valerius (Val) J. Rohleder passed away August 8th, 2024. Val was born to Nick and Minnie Rohleder on 12/19/1929 in Emmeram, Kansas.

He graduated from St. Joseph Military academy in Hays in 1948. He joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. Val married Tina Giest in 1956 and she survives the home.

In 1978 Val and Tina moved to Abilene KS where they opened their business Pioneer Farm and Ranch Supply. Val coached baseball, taught religion classes for his church but his greatest passion was running his farm store. Val worked in his store for more than 40 years before retiring at age 90.

Val is survived by his wife Tina and three children, Nick (Teree) Rohleder of Salina, Jody (Dr. Jim) Jenkins of Junction City, Amy (Mark) Dautel of McPherson, Six grandchildren, Samantha, Kristan, Hunter, Hannah, Jordan and Dustin, and 8 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Martin-Becker-Carlson funeral home in Abilene KS on Monday August 12th from 5:30-7:30pm (Rosary from 5:30-6pm). Visitation at Kline’s Mortuary in Hays KS on Tuesday August 13th from 6-8pm. Funeral on Wednesday August 14th at 10:30am at Basilica of St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria, KS. Val was born to Nick and Minnie Rohleder on 12/19/1929 in Emmeram, Kansas.He graduated from St. Joseph Military academy in Hays in 1948. He joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. Val married Tina Giest in 1956 and she survives the home.In 1978 Val and Tina moved to Abilene KS where they opened their business Pioneer Farm and Ranch Supply. Val coached baseball, taught religion classes for his church but his greatest passion was running his farm store. Valerius (Val) J. Rohleder

Doris Adelle (Johnson) Blomquist passed away August 2, 2024 at Cedarhurst Senior Living in Salina, KS. &nbsp;She was born on &nbsp;March 27, 1930, to Edgar and Ruby (Peterson) Johnson of rural&nbsp;Assaria. &nbsp; She attended grades 1-8 at Star School, walking or riding ponies with her siblings, Carolyn and Eldon, to the one-room schoolhouse located a mile south of their childhood home. &nbsp;She graduated as valedictorian from&nbsp;Assaria&nbsp;High School in 1948. &nbsp;She attended Kansas Wesleyan for 2 years, and then taught for 2 years at&nbsp;Smolan&nbsp;grade school. &nbsp;On October 12, 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Oscar Blomquist.

Early in their marriage, Oscar was drafted into the army during the Korean conflict. &nbsp;He was assigned to the Counter Intelligence Corps, and they lived in both Baltimore, MD, and Independence, MO, while he served his country. &nbsp;Doris worked at Butler Manufacturing in Kansas City during their time there. &nbsp;They returned to the&nbsp;Assaria&nbsp;community following his military service, and began a diversified farming and livestock operation. &nbsp;Shortly after their return, the farm adjacent to her childhood home became available for them to rent and later buy. &nbsp;They moved onto that place, and this is where Doris would live the next 68 years of her life.&nbsp;

The center of Doris’ life was her faith and her family. &nbsp;Life was not always easy; she and Oscar lost their second child as an infant, Oscar passed away suddenly in 1973 at age 42, and son Kevin passed away in 2004 at age 40. &nbsp;Despite these heartbreaking losses, she maintained an unwavering faith in Christ and looked forward with a strong, positive, optimistic spirit. &nbsp;She was a lifelong, active member of&nbsp;Assaria&nbsp;Lutheran Church and served as church secretary for many years until her retirement in 1997. &nbsp;She participated in and often served in leadership roles for Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Mary Group, XYZ, Quilting, Sunday School teaching, church kitchen serving, 4-H and “Mothers Club”. &nbsp;If you worked alongside Doris on a committee or a project, you could count on her to be hardworking, willing, capable, cheerful and ALWAYS organized. &nbsp;

Doris was proud of her Swedish heritage; one special memory was a trip to Sweden with her siblings and many of her cousins in 1998. &nbsp; &nbsp;She passed on many Swedish traditions including baking beautiful Swedish tea rings and&nbsp;ostkaka&nbsp;for Christmas. She was always ready to “have coffee” with friends and family. &nbsp;She loved her farm and enjoyed history, sharing the inspiring story of escaped slave and Liberty township homesteader Larry Lapsley with many audiences. &nbsp; &nbsp;An accomplished seamstress and pie baker, she delighted in growing flowers, watching birds, doing jigsaw puzzles, reading, and organizing photograph albums. &nbsp; One of her favorite things was receiving&nbsp;greeting cards—if you sent her a birthday or Christmas card, it was read and appreciated! &nbsp;Doris was a loving, selfless, devoted mother and encourager to her three children, and later to her 9 grandchildren, all of whom she adored and who adored her. She read her Bible daily, lived by example, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. &nbsp;

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Blomquist, sons Bernard &nbsp;and Kevin Blomquist, her parents, Edgar and Ruby Johnson, and her siblings, Carolyn Johnson and Eldon Johnson.&nbsp;

She is survived by two daughters, Denise Stein (David, dec.) of Gypsum and Lori Penner (Tim) of Clay Center, daughter-in-law, Stacy Blomquist of Pineville, LA, nine grandchildren, Emily Lind, Erica Moyer (Kyle), Elissa Westbrook (Andrew), Bethany Hofmann (Darren), Allison Haynes (Russell), Evan Penner (Katie), Rachel Blomquist, Ryan Blomquist, Megan Kirkendoll (Cameron), and 13 great-grandchildren. &nbsp;

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 9th at Crick-Christians&nbsp;Funeral&nbsp;Home.&nbsp;

The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 10th at&nbsp;Assaria&nbsp;Lutheran Church with Pastor Dean Apel officiating.&nbsp;

Doris Adelle (Johnson) Blomquist

Larry Sutton (AKA) Sam 83 passed away peacefully on August 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born in Gypsum, Kansas to Francis and Evelyn Sutton, the youngest of four children.

He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, where he formed lifelong friendships and earned his nickname “Sam.” Upon arriving as a freshman pledge, his fraternity brothers found him shy and quiet and dubbed him “Silent Sam.” Sam attributed his quietness to having three “very chatty” sisters. While in college, Sam met the love of his life, Prudy whom he affectionately referred to as my “Bride.” However, the names he cherished the most were Pops and Poppy.

Larry’s dynamic career spanning nearly 55 years brought his family to various cities both in the U.S. and abroad, allowing them to build enduring relationships along the way. He was known for his strong work ethic, his dedication to mentoring young engineers, and his no-nonsense attitude.

Sam will be remembered as a gentle giant who was humble and unassuming with a generous heart.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Prudy, his three children, John, Stephanie, and Jason, and four grandchildren, Zoe, Madison, Gregory, and Campbell. His sisters, Patsy, Marilyn and Darlene, his brother-in-law, Arnie, his sister-in-law, Kathy, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, August 26, 2024, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clay Center, KS

Peggy Marie Sorensen was born February 2, 1943 in Belleville Kansas, Peggy departed this earthly life August 6th, 2024 at her home in Abilene. Peggy had recently talked about seeing her parents Viola and Virgil White in heaven.

Peggy had two older sisters, Phyllis and Barbara. Peggy was united in marriage on May 27, 1962 to Robert Sorensen. Peggy and Bob liven in Emporia for four years. In 1966 Abilene became their new home. The last several years Peggy;s entertainment was taking day trips in the car. Many times she commented “isn’t Abilene a nice town”.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, her in-laws, aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband Robert, nephews and cousins. Peggy loved nature, especially birds and animals, Peggy and Bob lived on their “hobby farm” by Brown’s Park for 43 years where Peggy enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens.

Bob and Peggy were married for 62 years and 2 months, Bob will truly miss his partner and companion. Cremation has been selected and there will be no local services. Peggy Marie Sorensen

John Michael “Mike” McBride, 77, Salina, passed away in his home on August 4, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

Mike was born in Colby Kansas to parents Azel (Hopper) and John McBride. Although the family lived in several other places, they eventually returned to Colby where Mike graduated from High School in 1965. After graduation, Mike joined the Air Force and served five years overseas in Japan and Vietnam. After the service Mike returned to Colby and drove a bus route.

It was in Colby that Mike met the love of his life, Jackie, and they were married on December 9, 1972, at United Methodist Church, Colby. The couple moved to Salina a few years later where they later had one son, Michael “Wiley” just days before their ninth anniversary.Over the years, Mike worked for the local lumberyard, as insurance salesman, and as clerk for the Santa Fe Railroad.

He loved metal detecting as a hobby and became an independent dealer for MineLab metal detectors. He enjoyed collecting antique guns and coins.

Mike was most proud of two things: his military service and his grandchildren. If you ever met him, you have heard stories about both.

Over the year, Mike volunteered as a Boy Scout Troop Leader, soccer coach, and baseball coach. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW.

A private interment will be at a later date.The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Salina Fire Department Station 3 for all their neighborly help over the past few years.
