On Friday night, Southeast of Saline traveled to Eskridge to visit the Mission Valley Vikings in week three of district play.
Early on, the Trojans came out swinging with two Jaxson Gebhardt scores. The Junior quarterback put up the first points of the game with a 19 yard touchdown run. About four minutes later, Gebhardt would return a Viking punt 65 yards for a touchdown. Those two scores put SES up 14-0 in the first quarter. Things got quiet in the second quarter as both teams drew even and hit halftime with the Trojans leading by two touchdowns.
When SES got the ball in the third quarter, it quickly became obvious that Bryant Banks would be a huge part of the game plan. On the Trojans first offensive drive of the second half, Banks carried the ball seven straight times for a touchdown. Banks would also add the 2-point conversion to put Southeast up 22-0. On the following kick, Mission Valley would fumble and Logan Spellman recovered for SES. Two rushing plays later, Banks would have his second touchdown of the night. This theme would continue until the final buzzer. Trojans win, 48-6.
Banks would end the game with 171 yards on 23 carries, 4 touchdowns and a couple of 2-point conversions. 149 of those yards and all 4 touchdowns came in the second half. Gebhardt totaled 146 yards on 17 carries and 2 rushing touchdowns to go with the first quarter punt return.
The constant of the evening was the Trojan defense. Allowing only 146 yards and 6 points, creating multiple turnovers and playing physical all night.
Southeast of Saline (5-1) moves to 2-1 in district play and a +21 point total. The Trojans will be back at home on October 19th to play Riley County (4-2).
