KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid discussed who’s playing and who’s new during a Friday meeting with the media. Following are his comments.
OPENING STATEMENT: “Alright, as far as the injuries go, Fish (Eric Fisher) will be listed as out, (Chris) Jones will be listed as out. Dorian (O’Daniel) will also be out. Sammy (Watkins) and (Andrew) Wylie will be doubtful on your sheets. Everybody else practiced and did their thing. We look forward to the challenge of playing the Texans. They’re a good football team, we know that. The guys have had a good week of practice and we look forward to being back here again at Arrowhead and having an opportunity to play. With that, time is yours.”
Q: Tyreek has gotten through practice and done ok?
REID: “He did ok. He did a little scout team and did a few plays with us on the offensive side. We’ll see how it all rolls down the road here. We’ve got to make sure he and the docs are good with it.”
Q: It’ll probably be up until game time with him then?
Q: Last week’s post game talk with Coach Reich he said they were confident all week and they came in here and won. Do you ever get that feeling with the team?
REID: “You normally feel pretty good going into it. I can’t tell you a game that I didn’t feel like we were going to be in a good place.”
Q: What did you see from Stefen Wisniewski in his first week with the club and how will the left guard position will work out?
REID: “Yeah. Smart guy for sure. Fast and he did the same thing I was saying with Tyreek. He did some scout team and worked in the rotation. Andy (Heck) works all those guys in. He was able to get in there and didn’t make a lot of mistakes. That attributes to his ability to learn and get a little taste of this offense.”
Q: How has (Martinas) Rankin done so far?
REID: “Rankin has done a good job. He’s been good for us. We’re confident in him that he can play also. We’re good with it.”
Q: Are there any concerns with Anthony Hitchens since he was limited this week?
REID: “He was sore earlier in the week and he’s been getting treatment on that. Again, we will just see. It’s that time of the year and we’ve got a couple guys that are knicked up a little bit. We’ll just see how it rolls here.”
Q: How are you going to list Tyreek on the injury report?
REID: “You’ve got to wait and see. He looked ok for working on the scout team.”
Q: Without Chris Jones, how confident are you with Khalen Saunders and (Terrell) McClain?
REID: “Again, he can have that ability to get in and do that and we’ll just see how that goes. He’s a sharp guy and been around. I’m going to go back and see how everybody is doing. We just got off the field so it’s a numbers game you have to play. You’ve got to get with that.”
Q: What have you seen so far from Carlos Hyde in the film of the Texans?
REID: “Carlos has done a real nice job. He did a heck of a job for us when he was here. We were deep at that position so Brett (Veach) gave him an opportunity to get out of here (with the trade to Houston). He’s big. Loves to play. Good kid, I really liked him.”
Q: How much does the evaluation for Sammy, Tyreek and Anthony factor in with the ability to know you have a game four days later in Denver?
REID: “We normally say listen, if you can go, you can go as long as it’s been cleared. Then you get yourself ready for the next game there is. That’s how we’ve always been. We don’t get too much into the other part. If they can play, they can play. That’s how you roll with it. Try not to get more complicated with it.”
Q: What factored in to moving practice indoors today?
REID: “They mentioned the 25 mph gusts of wind. I wanted to get work done and we’re not going to have that on Sunday. That’s not what the forecast is. Although here you can never tell, we just dropped 40 degrees or whatever it was in a day. That was it. We went out for special teams and came in and got our work in there.”
