Growing up in Coffeyville, Kansas, Dorothy attended local schools and graduated from Enterprise Academy in Enterprise with the class of 1949.
She received her LPN training in Lincoln Nebraska and worked at Porter Memorial Hospital in Denver on the surgical floor.
In 1956 Dorothy was married to James D. Powell. In 1972 they moved to Huntsville, Arkansas where she worked at the Meadowview Nursing Home as head night nurse until retiring and moving to Enterprise in 1998. James preceded her in death in 1997.
Dorothy loved lighthouses, baseball, the New York Yankees, watermelon, ice cream, playing bingo, crossword / word search puzzles and Elvis.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon (John) Koch of Enterprise; grandson, Timothy (Mary) Koch of Salina; five great-grandsons, Robert, Richard, Reuben, Joe and Steve; a great-great- granddaughter, Elliana and a brother, Donald Williams.
The family has chosen cremation. Memorial services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, July 28, 2019, at the Enterprise Seventh-Day Adventist Church with Pastor Jonathan Burt officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be made to the Enterprise Library. They may be left at the church the day of the service or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
