ELLSWORTH COUNTY — The Kansas Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin a surface recycle and chip seal project on a portion of Kansas Highway 156 (K-156).
The work is scheduled to begin on Thursday on K-156 from the Barton/Ellsworth county line to the north city limits of Ellsworth in Ellsworth County.
Construction will take place Monday through Friday with occasional Saturday work during daylight hours. Traffic will be reduced to one lane following a pilot car through the work zone. Drivers should be prepared for a delay of up to 15 minutes and plan extra time in their travel schedules.
Bettis Asphalt & Construction, Inc. of Topeka is the prime contractor and anticipates this 20-mile project to be completed at the end of September, weather permitting, at a cost of $1.8 million.
KDOT urges all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone. To stay aware of all road construction projects across Kansas go towww.kandrive.org or call 5-1-1.
