Salina Police confirmed Friday that the vehicle found burning early Thursday in rural Saline County was, indeed, one that had been reported stolen in Salina Thursday morning.
On Thursday, Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan said that a deputy on patrol found a 2011 maroon/burgundy Ford Edge on fire in the 5000 block of South Centennial Road at approximately 5:15 a.m. Thursday. Firefighters from Rural Fire District No. 6 responded to extinguish the blaze, but the vehicle was a total loss at $6,500, Soldan said.
Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Friday that at 5:55 a.m. Thursday, police were taking a report from Shana Clevenger, 31, of Salina, about her missing Ford Edge. Clevenger told police that she had last seen the vehicle about midnight on Thursday when it was parked in the 800 block of East Wayne, he said.
Forrester confirmed that the vehicle destroyed by fire was Clevenger’s.
This isn’t the first time the vehicle was reported missing, Forrester said. Clevenger reported the Edge missing at 5:45 a.m. on June 24 and it was recovered at 9:30 p.m. the same day, he said.
