MANHATTAN – Kansas State women’s basketball will square off with a 2019 Final Four participant, as the Wildcats will travel to Eugene, Oregon, to face Oregon on December 21 in Matthew Knight Arena.
“Every year our non-conference schedule is designed to challenge our team and position us to be in the NCAA Tournament field of 64,” said head coach Jeff Mittie about the December contest. “Adding Oregon for a two-game series helps us accomplish this by adding a team that is a preseason number one in a poll already and coming off a Final Four appearance.”
This is the second meeting between the Wildcats and Ducks, as Oregon registered a 79-69 win on December 10, 1999, in Springfield, Missouri. Against current members of the Pac 12 Conference, K-State is 47-48. This is the fourth straight season K-State will face an opponent from the Pac 12 Conference (Arizona State, 2018-19; UCLA and Utah, 2017-18; Stanford, 2016-17).
Oregon notched a 33-5 overall record and 16-2 mark in the Pac 12. The Ducks advanced to the first Final Four in program history in 2019 and fell to eventual national champion, Baylor.
K-State’s game at Oregon is in addition to the Wildcats trip to the 17th annual Junkanoo Jam in the Bimini, Bahamas. The Wildcats will face Memphis on November 29 at 2 p.m. (CT), and will face either LSU or Michigan State on November 30 at either 3:30 p.m. (CT) or 5:45 p.m. (CT).
Kansas State concluded the 2018-19 season with a 21-12 overall record and an appearance in the 2019 NCAA Tournament. This was the fifth straight season the Wildcats reached the postseason under the direction of Mittie.
K-State will return nine letter winners from the 2018-19 season for the 2019-20 season, led by the trio of senior Peyton Williams, junior Rachel Ranke and sophomore Christianna Carr. The Wildcats will also welcome in redshirt freshman Ayoka Lee and freshmen Emma Chapman, Emilee Ebert and Jada Thorpe.
