A Salina man was without his pickup for a while Friday after it was stolen from his workplace.
Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said Monday that Robert Schimmel, 59, parked his red 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 at his workplace in the 100 block of South Broadway at approximately 6 a.m. Friday. Schimmel discovered the pickup had been stolen after another employee arrived at work and asked where the pickup was, Forrester said.
The officer who took the report put the information out about the stolen pickup and a while later another officer called in that he had located the pickup at the Airliner Motel at 781 N. Broadway, Forrester said. At that point, Jacob Denton, 32, of Salina, the subject who had the pickup, told police that he had been given a ride in the pickup by another subject who had gotten out of the pickup at the trailer park on North 13th, Forrester said. Denton said he had then taken the pickup to the Airliner Motel, Forrester added.
According to Forrester, Denton, who had an outstanding warrant from district court, was arrested on the warrant and on suspicion of driving while suspended and possession of stolen property.
The pickup was not damaged and was returned to Schimmel, Forrester said.
