UPDATE 7:55 a.m. Friday: The winter weather advisory has been extended and will run from 6 p.m. Friday to noon on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service office in Wichita. Additionally, total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches, with locally higher amounts are possible. The majority of the snow is expected Friday night into Saturday morning.
Be prepared for snow this weekend! A good portion of Kansas, including the Salina area, is scheduled to be under a winter weather advisory beginning Friday evening.
According to the National Weather Service office in Wichita (NWSW), a winter weather advisory will be in effect from 6 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday.
Accumulating snow is likely later Friday through Saturday morning, with impacts to travelers during the Friday evening rush hour — especially along the I-70 corridor — and those with weekend travel plans. Of note, this system will bring snow to much of the I-70 corridor with impacts expected beyond just Kansas.
NWSW is forecasting 2-4 inches of snow for the Salina area, with the period of heaviest snow expected Friday evening through Friday night. Plan on slippery road conditions and reduced visibility at times. Weekend travelers are encouraged to allow for extra time to reach their destination.
