A large generator stolen around Christmastime has been located in southwest Kansas and a suspect arrested.
Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning that the Clark County Sheriff’s Office located the generator at a vacant residence in Minneola. The generator, valued at $42,164, was stolen from Central Power Systems, 1944 N. Ninth, sometime between noon on Christmas Eve and noon on December 27.
Forrester said the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, the Minneola Police Department, and the Ford County Sheriff’s Office developed Rafael Araujo, 26, of Kinsley, as a suspect in the case. Forrester said Araujo was an absconder from the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC). The KDOC task force, with the assistance of the Salina Police Department, on Thursday located Araujo at 1908 N. Fifth, where he was arrested on the KDOC warrant, Forrester said. Araujo is expected to be arrested on Friday on suspicion of felony theft in the stolen generator case, Forrester added.
