Two Salina teens are in the juvenile detention center in Junction City after being arrested Wednesday for their involvement in the theft of four vehicles, three stolen during the day Wednesday.
15-year-old Tylor Hill and 15-year-old Shane Boyett were charged with felony theft and several traffic infractions for stealing a Ford Escape and a Honda Accord from Shawn Costello, a Buick Enclave from Margret Fuller, both of Salina, and a Dodge pickup from an unknown owner.
The Honda Accord was involved in a hit and run at Schilling Road and Riffel Drive around 8:30 Wednesday morning. The Enclave and pickup were also in a hit and run involving a fire Hydrant at Otis and Front around 2:00 Wednesday afternoon.
The Enclave was involved in a brief chase with the Kansas Highway Patrol, before being found fully engulfed in fire in a ditch in the 1300 block of North Front. The Honda Accord was found damaged in the same area as the Enclave, while the pickup was recovered with damage out in the county. The Escape, which had been stolen Saturday, was recovered behind a building in the 800 block of West Crawford.
Both Hill and Boyett were taken into custody in the area of North Front Street.
Hill faces an additional charge of fleeing and eluding, while Boyett was also charged with misdemeanor theft. Boyett and 14-year-old Damian Chronister allegedly stole about ten dollars worth of merchandise from the Pump Mart at 1118 North 9th. Chronister turned himself in to police late Wednesday night.
NOTE: Kansas state law allows law enforcement to release the names of juveniles age 14 and older involved in criminal cases.
