CONCORDIA — The No. 14 ranked Cloud County Community College women’s soccer team remained undefeated on the season following a 7-0 drubbing of Pratt Community College on Wednesday.
Cloud County (5-0 overall, 3-0 KJCCC West) closed out its three-game home stand in style, controlling the matchup with the visiting Beavers (2-4 overall, 0-3 KJCCC West) from the opening kickoff.
The T-Birds were able to put Pratt behind the 8-ball early as sophomore Abigail Conway and freshman Franciele Cupertino each scored goals within the first five minutes of the game to put Cloud up 2-0 before many players had started to break a sweat.
For Conway, the goal at the 3:50 marked was her first of the year and a big sigh of relief after the forward had peppered opposing goalies with a team-best 26 shots this season before finally getting rewarded.
The T-Birds then went on a scoring barrage of the end of the first half, scoring three goals within a 10-minute span to balloon their lead to 5-0 at the half.
Freshman midfielder Fernanda Peinado scored two of those goals; her third straight game with two scores. Peinado also contributed to the third goal as her well-placed corner kick found sophomore defenseman Ingrid Castro, who headed in her first goal of the season with just 15 seconds remaining in the half.
Cloud County put the bow on its 7-0 victory with two second-half goals.
Cupertino netted her second goal of the goal, and fourth overall on the season, while freshman Thaina Cavalcante buried a shot at the 72:41 mark to round out the scoring.
Freshman midfielder Chiara Perrone assisted on both second-half goals and finished with a total of three assists on the afternoon.
In net, sophomore goalkeeper Alanya Hannigan recorded the shutout, stopping each of the two shots she faced in the first half before giving way to freshman backup Becka Dreier to begin the second half.
Cloud County will look to build off its great home stand — the T-Birds outscored opponents 22-3 — when it heads out on the road this Saturday to face Garden City Community College. Game time currently scheduled for 5 p.m.
