He married his wife, Sylvia P. Garst, on Aug. 18, 1949.
James was a member of the Army Air Corps and proudly served in Korea. He then worked for Graves Trucking, driving for 22 years and earning numerous driving safety awards.
He was a jack of all trades with a special love for woodworking and carpentry.
James was preceded in death by his son, Charles “Chuck” Shramek; daughters, Barbara Ann and Linda Jolene; and grandson, Chad Rhea.
Surviving are his wife of almost 69 years, Sylvia; sons, James S., of Austin, Texas, Mark A., of Holyrood, John M., of Dallas, and Patrick D., of Bison; sister, Mary Ann Dyer, of Omaha, Neb.; and many loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, August 17, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis.
