Dean grew to manhood in the Abilene area and married Norma Jean Fuller. She preceded him in death. He later married Betty J. Wise on December 20, 1982 in Miami, Oklahoma. She passed away June 2, 2010.
Dean joined the Abilene Fire Department in 1951 and became the Fire Chief in 1959. After a 30 year career, Dean retired in 1989. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Fraternal Order of Elks in Abilene. He also enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his son Rocky Annis of Abilene; step daughter Cheryl O’Dell of Lincoln, Nebraska; step son Gary Jantz of Solomon; son-in-law Steve Debenham of Abilene; nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wives, daughter Marcia Debenham, his brothers & sisters, and his loving great granddaughter Brooklyn Lee Debenham.
Dean’s wishes were to be cremated. His family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home. Private inurnment services will be at a later date in the Prairie Mound Cemetery at Solomon. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dickinson County or to the Abilene Fire Department Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd Street, Abilene, Kansas 67410.
