Offensive Player of the Week: James McNear, Omaha Beef
McNear and the Beef (6-1) continued their winning ways in Week 9 with a 68-13 victory over Mid-Missouri. McNear completed 16-of-20 passes for 111 yards and five touchdowns. McNear also added 41 yards and a touchdown on the ground in the game. McNear is second in the league with 26 touchdown passes. The Beef host Lincoln in a heated rivalry game on Saturday.
Defensive Player of the Week: Justice Scales, Salina Bombers
Scales tied a league record with three interceptions in Salina’s 55-31 victory over the Kansas Koyotes in Week 9. It was the third victory in a row for Salina and moved their record to 5-2 on the year. Scales returned two of the interceptions for touchdowns. He also recorded seven tackles. The Bombers victory set up a huge game in Wichita on Saturday night as both teams are battling for playoff position.
Special Teams Players of the Week: Max Martin, Sioux City and Courtney Grixby, Lincoln
For the second time this year, Max Martin kicked his way to the Special Teams Player of the Week award. Martin connected on 3-of-5 field goals and 6-of-6 extra points in the Bandits 51-42 victory over Kansas City. The field goals measured 41, 24, and 22 yards. Martin is ranked second amongst kickers in the league in scoring with 59 points. Sioux City (5-2) hosts Mid-Missouri on Saturday.
Grixby led the Haymakers (3-4) to a 48-39 home victory over Bloomington last Friday. Grixby returned four kickoffs for 91 yards and he returned a missed field goal 56 yards for a touchdown. Grixby is averaging 18.4 yards per kick return this year, which ranks fifth in the league. Lincoln will be looking for their third win in a row as the Haymakers travel to Omaha on Saturday.
Week 10 of the CPIFL season kicks-off with Bloomington hosting Kansas City on Friday night in a critical game for both clubs. On Saturday, Wichita hosts Salina, Kansas visits Oklahoma, Mid-Missouri visits Sioux City, and Lincoln travels to Omaha.
