Residents have complained about odors and safety of the anhydrous ammonia and other chemicals at the Abilene Products plant.
County Administrator Brad Homman said Tuesday that the Kansas Department of Health and Environment is working with the county’s emergency management director to determine how to monitor air emissions at the plant.
The Environmental Protection Agency sent inspectors to the plant east of Abilene in early November. A preliminary report of any potential violations is expected to be finished by mid-December.
Homman says Dal Koop, owner of the plant, is cooperating with county officials. He says Koop wants to prove that he is operating safely.
