A 20-year-old Salina man is booked into the Saline County jail on numerous charges after leading police in a brief high speed chase Tuesday afternoon.
Salina Police Sgt. Jim Feldman said Stephen Howard stolen a 2014 Honda Ridgeline pickup in the garage of Frank Rapp in the 1900 block of Ruskin Road early Tuesday afternoon. The keys were in the vehicle.
After police took a report, an officer saw the stolen pickup in the area of Brookwood and Marymount Road. When the officer tried to stop Howard, he drove off and a brief pursuit which reach speeds of near 80 mph began and ended in the 2400 block of Cedar Ridge Drive when Howard lost control of the pickup.
Howard took off on foot, but was quickly apprehended. A search of Howard found credit cards stolen from the purse of Elizabeth Shearer that had been left in her car parked in the garage of her home in the 100 block of Channel Road. The pickup valued at $22,000 was totaled.
Charges against Howard include 2-counts of aggravated burglary, felony and misdemeanor theft, felony f;ee and elude, driving while suspended, obstruction, reckless driving, and felony damage to property.
