Undersheriff Brent Melander Told the Salina Post that yesterday afternoon around 1:00, deputies responded to an incident of road rage. Justin White, 41, of Salina, was driving a 2018 Freightliner truck for Kidds Towing. He was heading North on Ohio when a 2014 Kia Sedan driven by Steven Viar, 25, of Salina swerved into him several times.
White allegedly saw Viar texting on his phone while driving with his knees. Words were exchanged and while both were heading to the I-70 on-ramp, the driver of the Kia flagged down the truck driver. A verbal altercation took place and Viar allegedly rammed his Kia three times into the truck and drove off heading south on Ohio Street.
According to Melander, local law enforcement was contacted and the suspect in the Kia was stopped by both Sheriff Deputies and Police Officers. Viar was taken into custody and is facing possible charges of Aggravated battery, felony damage to property, and reckless driving.
The Kia sustained major front-end damage. The truck sustained over $15,000 worth of damage. No injuries were reported.
