Police responded to a call on Monday, April 23 around 6:20 p.m. to 400 S. Santa Fe Ave. about a homeless suicidal patient attempting to leave the hospital.
According to Captain Paul Forrester, The suspect is John Walmsley, 35, homeless, was at the hospital for a suicide attempt. Walmsley was attempting to leave the hospital before being officially released which prompted the call to the authorities.
A female officer arrived at the scene and met Walmsley in the parking lot. She told him that he was not free to leave. He continued to walk away from her. She pulled out her taser and told him to stop. He then got down on the ground. When one handcuff was placed on Walmsley, he pulled himself up off the ground and attempted to swing his right fist at the officer’s face. The officer then tased him, according to Forrester.
Walmsley was taken into custody after he was released from the hospital. He is now facing charges of assault of an officer.
