Salina Liberty Win Third in a Row!

April 14, 2018 by Devin Hanney Leave a Comment

The Salina Liberty captured a new franchise record for wins in a single season last week when they beat Dallas. The Liberty would try to keep that streak going and attempt to stay unbeaten on their home field Saturday night when they played host to Omaha. Oh, there is the fact Omaha is the only team to beat the Liberty this season.

Back on March 10th, The Beef scored with just :10 second left in the game to defeat Salina, 37-42. The Beef would score on the opening drive of the game Saturday night, but then it was all Liberty as Salina went on a 28-0 run triggered by an pick-six interception and return for a touchdown by Isiah Barfield. The Liberty led 35-17 at halftime.

Omaha would outscore the Liberty by one point in the third quarter but Salina still led 48-31 at the start of the fourth quarter.

The scoring spree would continue in the fourth quarter and the Liberty would cruise to a 69-43 victory. Salina was led by Derrick Bernard at the quarterback spot who threw for 224 yards and six touchdowns. Bernard also had three rushing touchdowns. His favorite target on the night was Julian Stafford who had a season high 123 yards and four touchdowns.

The Salina Liberty (4-1) will go on the road next week to take on the Bismarck Bucks (3-2). Game time is set for 7:05 on Saturday in Bismarck.
