January 8, marked the start of a new Mayor and City Commission for the City of Salina. It was a packed house in room 107 at the city county building. Former city commissioner Jon Blanchard gave his farewell remarks discussing the accomplishments and challenges that he faced while serving on the city commission.
Former Mayor Kaye Crawford gave a touching speech. She highlighted her time on the commission and as mayor recognizing the hard work and dedication of the city staff and those whose efforts often go unrecognized.
The city clerk administered the Oaths of Office to new commissioners Joe Hay, Melissa Rose Hodges, and Mike Hoppock. The organizational meeting was called to order and roll was taken. Nominations for Acting Mayor and Vice Chairman were made. Karl Ryan is the new Mayor of the City of Salina and Dr. Trent Davis is Vice Mayor.
Mayor Karl Ryan spoke about his vision and thanked his family and friends for their support. The new commissioners also thanked their families, supporters, and spoke of vision, hope, and the hard work ahead of them.
Commissioner Dr. Trent Davis gave a humorous parting thought at the end of his remarks. He recommended that the spouses of the new commissioners send City Manager Jason Gage a text if a commission meeting goes past 10 p.m.
