Dorothy graduated from nurse’s training at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita and worked as an RN in Wichita and Oxnard, Calif. She continued her studies in Springfield, Ill. to become a nurse anesthetist. From there she went to Billings, Mont., and worked as the first nurse anesthetist in one of the hospitals there. Wanting to move back to California, Dorothy continued her work in Santa Barbara, Calif., and eventually moved and worked at the VA Hospital in Wichita. She retired from there to care for her mother in Beloit, until her mother’s passing five years later. Dorothy eventually moved to Salina where she has resided ever since.
Dorothy was a quiet, but generous contributor to many charities throughout her lifetime. She found great joy in helping the poor and the hungry. Dorothy died at 105 years old and looked forward to seeing the Lord.
She is survived by: her sisters, Maxine Heinen (Paul) of Salina, and Theresa Wehkamp, of Garden City; and many nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews. <pMass of Christian Burial is at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Beloit. Rosary will begin at 8:45 a.m. and vigil at 9:00 a.m. at Ryan Mortuary, prior to the service.</p
