Speeds reached 90 miles-per-hour in a Wednesday night pursuit that ended with the arrest of a 28-year-old Salina man.
Salina Police Capt. Mike Sweeney said that just before 9 p.m., an officer driving westbound on Washington was almost struck by a silver Pontiac G6 that was Southbound on Tenth. Southbound traffic at that intersection has a yield sign so the officer attempted to make a traffic stop, according to Capt. Sweeney.
The suspect, later identified as Cole Davis, took off heading south on Tenth. He then turned east on Prescott and then south on Ninth. Capt. Sweeney said he reached speeds up to 80-mph down Ninth.
The chase continued west on Republic and then south on Broadway. Capt. Sweeney said the pursuit was terminated for safety reasons when the suspect hit 90-mph.
Another officer reported seeing the silver Pontiac park in the Central Mall parking lot, located at 2259 South Ninth. Davis ditched the vehicle, fleeing on foot into the neighboring Chapel Ridge apartment complex, 2363 Chapel Ridge.
Davis was located sitting on a park bench in the complex and arrested. He was booked into the Saline County Jail for felony flee and elude, reckless driving, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while suspended.
Capt. Sweeney said Davis was also wanted on a district court warrant for probation violation.
