Salina Police were sent to the intersection of Schilling and Royal Drive just before 6 p.m. last night after receiving a report of a child struck by a car. According to a Salina Police Department spokesperson, the 13-year-old boy remains in critical condition as of 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Sgt. Brent Rupert didn’t release names of those involved but reported that a Chevy Aveo, that was westbound on Schilling, attempted to pass several vehicles turning onto Royal.
The Aveo drove into eastbound traffic before cutting back in front of the turning vehicles. The Aveo locked up the brakes before striking a 13-year-old boy crossing the street on a scooter.
Sgt. Rupert said that the impact threw the boy nearly 30-feet.
A girl, who was also crossing the street, was not injured.
The boy was transported to Salina Regional Health Center in critical condition. He was then transferred by ambulance to Wesleyan Medical Center in Wichita last night.
No arrests were made and the accident is still under investigation, according to Sgt. Rupert.
