WEEK 8 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEW
Southeast of Saline (7-0) VS. Hesston (4-3) – 7 p.m.
The undefeated Southeast of Saline Trojans are back home Friday night to host the visiting Hesston Swathers. Fresh off a huge district win over previously undefeated Marion last week, the Trojans will continue their march toward the post-season against a 4-3 Hesston team looking to keep their post-season hopes alive. Both teams come into Friday night’s contest undefeated in district play. This game can be heard on the official home for Southeast of Saline athletics, 910 KINA, at 910 AM, 94.5 FM, online right here at SalinaPost.com and the TuneIn application. Pregame with Devin Hanney begins at 6:30 p.m.
Salina South (0-7) at Salina Central (0-7) – 7 p.m.
Crosstown rivals Salina South and Salina Central will meet for the mayor’s cup on Friday night and both will be looking for something that has eluded them during the 2016 season: a win. Even though neither have a victory this season, both are assured a playoff spot based on KSHSAA’s new post-season format. The winner of Friday night’s regular season finale will move up in the seedings in the Class 5A 16-team west bracket, while the loser will be guaranteed to face the top-seed among those 16 teams. South has won the last five meetings between the two, but Central leads the overall series 31-21. Seven of the last eight meetings between the two rivals and 12 of the last 15 have been decided by seven points or less. It is the first time since 1990 that the two schools will meet with both having below .500 records. Both teams were also 0-7 in that 1990 game, which South won 20-7.
Sacred Heart (2-5) at Ell-Saline (3-4) – 7 p.m.
In Class 2-1A district 6 action Friday night, rivals Sacred Heart and Ell-Saline will meet at the Cardinal’s Nest in Brookville. Both team’s come into Friday night’s contest with 0-1 district records and both are in dire need of a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Both schools will be looking to get back on the winning side of things as well. Sacred Heart has lost five straight games after a 2-0 start. The Cardinals have lost their last three.
St. John’s Military (0-6) at Sunrise Christian Academy (2-3) – 7 p.m.
The St. John’s Military Muleskinners are still in search of their first win of the 2016 season. They travel to Wichita on Friday to face the 2-3 Sunrise Christian Academy Buffaloes. Sunrise will look to snap a losing streak of their own as they have lost three straight after a 2-0 start. Tonight’s game will have little effect on the post-season as both schools are already guaranteed a spot in the Kansas Christian Athletic Association playoffs.
