Ottawa County RFD #4 Chief Mark Whitesell said the call about the fire came in at 10:49a.m., and firefighters from Minneapolis, Delphos, and Saline County responded.
Bennington firefighter-EMT and training officer Tony Swetson was in the business when the fire broke out. Swetson said the fire appeared to have started in the area of the Kitchen. He said when he saw black smoke, he had the 8 to 10 people in the business leave as he called for a response from the fire department.
The fire was knocked down within 15 minutes of the call going out.
There is extensive heat and smoke damage to Westside Ventures, and some smoke damage to businesses located on either side.
Saline County rural fire districts have been asked to help battle a structure fire at Westside Ventures in downtown Bennington late Monday morning. The calls for assistance came out after 11a.m.
