Weekend Drowning at Lake Wilson UPDATE

11:00 a.m.  The Russell  County Sheriff’s office has confirmed the name of the victim in the weekend drowning at Lake Wilson is George Willenberg, age 38 of Hoisington.  Emergency crews pulled Willenberg’s body from the lake on Sunday. It was the state’s third drowning over the weekend.

Two people on the boat said they saw the man go under water and not come up again. Authorities say alcohol may have played a part in the drowning. Name of the victim has not been released.

    They say alcohol may have played a part.. I truly hope not . It is a sad enough situation without adding an inhibitant.. I do not understand why in todays society that many feel the need to involve alcohol into a recreational activity. It has been proven time and time again that bad things can happen and do happen alot more than in the same situations where no alcohol is involved.. So please as you venture out to enjoy all that life has to offer.. ask yourself.. do you really need a boost to have fun …. and my condolences to the family

    We were out there Sunday. It was no condition to be having boats out on the water, let alone trying to swim across any amount of water with those waves! Too windy, and they tossed boats around like dolls! My sympathies are with the family who lost a loved one.
