Kansas Highway Patrol Superintendent, Colonel Ernest Garcia, has selected Major Alan Stoecklein to serve as Assistant Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Lieutenant Colonel Stoecklein began his law enforcement career in 1975 as a patrolman for the Ulysses Police Department. Subsequently, he joined the Garden City Police Department, where he held positions of patrolman, corporal, sergeant, and detective before joining the Kansas Highway Patrol in 1980.

Stoecklein’s first duty station was in Lakin, Kansas. He was promoted to Sergeant in June of 1987, and transferred to Hutchinson, where he served as the first line supervisor of that zone for 14 years. In 2000, he was promoted to Troop F Commander (South Central Kansas, Wichita area) and held the rank of Captain for seven years before being promoted to Major of the West Region in March of 2008.

Stoecklein served as a Field Training Officer two years and was a Recruit Class Counselor in 1984 and 1985. He is a charter member of the Reno County DUI Victim Panel and has held numerous positions on the board the past 17 years.
