Parkinson's disease impacts millions of families each year, and to help fund research about and combat the condition, the local Punchin'Out Parkinson's organization planned its fifth Punchin' Out Parkinson's Cinco de Mayo fundraiser at LaCurva Mexican Restaurant in town.

"This is our fifth year of doing it, and we just had a good relationship with LaCurva," said Punchin' Out Parkinson's founder Kallie Burgardt. "So we asked them, and they agreed, so we just held it there every single year."

LaCurva will sell tacos by the dozen for $25 at the fundraiser, with the option of carryout or delivery. Punchin' Out Parkinson's also offers a pre-order option for donors.

"There's a lot of people who, rather than buying tacos, go to our website and donate or write a check," Burgardt said.

Burgardt founded the 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization in 2019 after the death of her grandfather, Gene Heckel, from Parkinson's.

Punchin' Out Parkinson's aims to not only fund research for fighting the disease but also improve the quality of life for those currently living with it.

The organization promotes and provides a non-contact boxing-based fitness curriculum that utilizes punching bags and intense exercise to help reduce, reverse and delay Parkinson's symptoms.
